Anatoliy Ozerov

Born in a coal mining city of Donetsk in Soviet Ukraine in 1939, Anatoliy Ozerov spent his early years aware of the nature's bounty and the struggles of working class of the southern region of his country. Not of a meek character, he was speaking up for the underserved, which led to an interdict on his profession as a journalist. Never to stop observing and expressing his point of view his life was difficult under the soviet regime. He had found an output to his revolting energy in writing poetry and taking care of the vegetable garden which also supplied nutrition for his family.

Near his retirement, Ozerov began to paint what has surrounded him all his life: fragrant flora, mirroring lakes, flat-topped mounts of the mining production, the warm eyes of his family members and the resilient gases of the blue-collar workers.

After moving to United States to rejoin with his daughter, he focused on abstract painting in attempt to express what is beyond words and images. Using a saturated pallet of colors from his garden and those local plants he encounters on his walks, he builds rhythmic relationships reminiscent of those he had lived through.
