Statement

The earth offers her beauty in grandiose as well as diminutive scale. My photographs are moments of observing what goes unobserved: of honoring that smaller part of the whole. And in its grandeur, that part becomes an abstract world unto itself. My intention is to remove all notions of time, view with clarity, and transcend the materiality of the image in order to honor the harmony of Nature’s grace, beauty and power.

The images meet the viewer dynamically, evoking a sense of compassion and awe as they are reminded of the beauty in the smaller and more immediate parts of the environment. It is my experience that a photograph of a ripple of water can elicit a stronger sense of fragility than an image of a mighty river. By cropping the landscape into smaller gems, viewers often more readily appreciate the vulnerability of nature. They comprehend the complexity of a tiny portion of tree bark and recognize, in an emotional way, that not even a single piece of our natural world should be sacrificed. Through this visceral connection, the viewer’s appreciation of the natural resource is deepened, and in so doing, they become more engaged in preserving it.
