I work in oil, acrylic, pencil, marker on panel and paper.

My work is abstract, more or less geometric abstraction.

I would not call it expressionistic.

I seem to like imposing a system, or rules, on myself and then finding the unexpected within the structure.

The system could be a visual pattern, such as stripes.

Or it could be a process.

Or a certain type of mark-making.

I try not to pander.

I try to be authentic. This is a continual self cross-examination to discover false motives and imitative tendencies.

Bruce Kimerer is an artist new to Southern California. After spending most of his adult life in and around New York City, health issues and a series of personal losses compelled him to create a new life in the California desert. In New York Bruce focused mostly on moody landscapes of the Brooklyn waterfront and the rolling hills of the rural upstate countryside. He has exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York as well as gallery venues in D.U.M.B.O. Brooklyn and the Hudson Valley. While his current work no longer resembles traditional landscape painting it is a direct result of his experience of the light, the color and the geometry of Southern California.
