Daniel Sliwa

I simply want to do what any artist wants to do. I want to dissect the world, re-arrange it, study it in an attempt to make sense of it, and then present it to an audience in hopes that they'll see it and understand me.

Recently graduated filmmaker/photographer from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Gained a degree in Cinema and Photography, with a minor in Philosophy. I love to create so I'm constantly at work, photographing, writing, filming, and editing. I have been involved with 10 senior thesis films, and several independent short films. I recently finished my feature-length experimental piece titled, "Some Kind of Nature", which explores human connection through artistic expression. I was also involved in the very first musical senior thesis shot at SIUC, "The Sound of Shadows", which opened in a theater that's a national landmark. The Liberty Theater, in Murphysboro, IL.

I was a founding member and board member for the school film group, MCM, which recently became the largest RSO (registered student organization) at SIUC, even though it was founded in 2010. The film group is dedicated to improving the craft of its members and giving people the resources and assistance they need to create a short narrative film. The last two years, the film group produced 8 short films (per year) and screened the work for 300 people. The group introduced the 48-Hour film festival to Carbondale, which invites local filmmakers in to "write, direct, and edit a film in 48 hours".

I enjoy working on narrative, documentary, and experimental pieces. I occasionally dabble in animation and was the producer, cinematographer, and editor for Savannah Steiner's ambition claymation short, "My Art is Not Dead".
