Prior to painting I was a tapestry weaver and patterns continue to show up in my work. I believe that paint has a language as well as the image that contributes to the content of a painting.

Access to my subconcious thru layering, adding and subtracting paint, and the juxtoposition of colors help me to interpret the natural world in a non-literal manner.

Memories of landscapes and sketches become organic layers and shapes, a scruffy romantic elegance without being overtly sentimentall

Hunter Hogan was a tapestry weaver for almost 20 years and switched to painting in 1989. Her early education included painting at Old Dominion College in Norfolk,Va., The Norfolk Museum Art School, Penland School of Crafts, and Haystack Mt. School of Crafts.

She has had a residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute and been a studio intern for Sheila Hicks in Paris,France. She has participated in workshops with Chuck Foresman, Brad Davis, Roberto Jaurez, Rafael Ferrar,Gregory Amenoff, Sam Scott, Emily Cheng and Peter Haley.

Her work has been featured at the Aspen Art Museum In a show juried by Bill Armstrong of the Whitney Museum. She was also included in \"Significant Colorodo Women Artists of the 20th Century\" which travelled to the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Her works are in the corporate collections of Earnst and Young, Sterling Drug, Chugai-Upjohn, Satelite Health Care of Mountainview Ca.,and the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa.
