Ilana Dashe
CARLSBAD, CA, United States
Statement
Ilana Dashe (Dasheprints), is a Colombian/American designer who investigates the mediums of printmaking. Using her extensive background in graphic design and marketing, Ilana draws much inspiration from her interpretation of Japan's natural and man-made wonders that, while appearing to be on opposite ends of the spectrum, are in fact, inherently intertwined.
Biography
Ilana Dashe is a Colombian/American designer based in North County San Diego making hand-printed lithographs and silkscreen prints that provide her take on Japan – its beauty in nature, icons and architecture – how seemingly contradictory elements blend together.
Ilana’s work is greatly inspired by her experiences living as a foreigner in Tokyo. Searching to fulfill her artistic passion in Japan, she has learned both lithograph and silkscreen print techniques locally. Ilana loves the challenging process and effort required in hand-printing and the textured, natural look that is produced. She has exhibited her prints in Tokyo since 2017.
Ilana received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington University in St. Louis in Visual Communications with a focus on graphic design.
After university, she returned to Southern California to begin her design career at an advertising agency, and then at a design studio before starting her own design consultancy, Avanti Creative, LLC in 2011.
Ilana and her family lived in Geneva, Switzerland for five years prior to moving to Tokyo in 2015.
