Statement

ARTIST STATEMENT

Essentially a figurative painter, I am currently working on the influence graphic arts and the media of the past century has so vividly contributed to our culture of quick-fix, super-heroism and gratification. I am particularly interested in the superficial presentation clothing as costume defines and evolves in culture; geographically, historically and genetically, and illustrate the social and racial undertones recognized by such manipulations.

"In search for the ultimate marking that best describe our responsibility to life on Planet Earth, I make art/support art."

Biography

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, I trained as a graphic artist at The Johannesburg School of Art. After working in advertising for J.Walter Thompson, I later freelanced in Fashion Illustration for ten years. Political consciousness propelled both my husband and I to immigrate to the United States in 1973 where he continued his studies. I attended various art classes at both The Decordova Museum School and Boston University.

My studies in Printmaking, drawing and painting continued at UCLA and The Brentwood Art Center when we relocated to Los Angeles in 1978.

Working professionally since 1984 I exhibited and sold work throughout the United States as well as internationally.

I have introduced and taught new techniques of solar plate etching, Gum Arabic Lithography and other forms of non-toxic printmaking as well as Drawing, Papermaking, Mixed Media and Acrylic Painting.
