I call myself a spiritual surrealist painter, using color, metaphor, and non-figurative sacred geometry to express my passion for the holy, the good, and the beautiful I see in the world. I want to be reminded of God's presence, guiding us to look beyond our normal perceptions.

I believe in the Unity of all life,that there is only one God, one Spirit, one Consciousness, and that our commitment to love and forgiveness can change the world.

After a rich journey that has included training in dance, drawing, painting and glass blowing, Joyce Small?s spiritual and artistic quest brought her to Spokane, where she now paints full-time. Joyce?s work draws on more than 40 years of international travel, as well as an eclectic experience of Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism A Course In Miracles, and the respective works of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell.

A bout with cancer in her mid-50s prompted Joyce to more deeply explore the purpose of her life, which not surprisingly led to a greater commitment to art. She had previously studied art as a young woman at Long Beach State University, and University of California at San Francisco. In 1997, she and her husband, Jack, moved from Sacramento to Seattle, where she studied glassblowing at the Pratt Institute and Uptown Glass. Later, she studied drawing at Pratt, painting with private teacher, Hellen Amero, and worked under iconic Northwest artist, Ted Basrak.

She has shown her paintings at galleries on Whidbey Island,WA, in Panama, where they lived for four years, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and in Spokane, WA.
