Julia Torgovitskaya

Julia Torgovitskaya, soprano, was born in Moscow and grew up in Los Angeles, California. In May 2009, she completed her undergraduate studies at Tufts University in Boston, where she majored in Music, International Relations, and Russian and East European Studies and minored in Philosophy. Julia graduated Summa Cum Laude, with high honors, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Iota Rho. She was also the recipient of awards in Music Department for performance and in the Russian Department.

At Tufts University, Julia sang the role of Mrs. Webb in Ned Rorem\\\\\'s Our Town, Dido in Henry Purcell\\\\\'s Dido and Aeneas and Laurette in Georges Bizet\\\\\'s lesser known opera, Le Docteur Miracle. Julia has also sung the following partial roles: Zerlina in Mozart\\\\\'s Don Giovanni, Frasquita in Bizet\\\\\'s Carmen, Sonia in Lehar\\\\\'s The Merry Widow, First Lady in Mozart\\\\\'s Die Dauberflöte, Fiordiligi in Mozart\\\\\'s Cosi fan tutte, Suor Geovieffa in Puccini\\\\\'s Suor Angelica, and Leila in Bizet\\\\\'s The Pearlfishers.

Julia has also performed several full recitals and feels equally at home on the concert stage as she does on the opera stage.

Julia has a particular affinity for Russian music, which is often given less attention in university music programs and conservatories. At Tufts, she began an annual Russian Music Festival which is still running today.
