Lyle Rushing

My art pieces are reflective, contemplative snapshots of human experiences and natural elements.

I love the use of rudimentary tools: graphite, charcoal, oil sticks, colored pencils. The connection of hand-to-tool-to-paper is extraordinary. Equally, I love the fluidity of acrylics and pastels. My most recent works are dominated by utilizing wood as a recipient of these mediums. Wood as an organic surface has unique, innate absorption tendencies that require a cooperative effort with: the wood, the mediums and me. Often when working with these varied mediums on wood, I will incorporate pressing techniques and casual brush strokes to achieve blendings that result in a harmonious visual experience.

I create artwork with passion and with purpose. The human experience embossed upon the canvas of nature requires nothing less.
