Statement
My mind is a swirl of words and colors and I exist as both a poet and painter. My paintings are abstract while the poetry is clear, telling stories ranging from medieval World War II Bavarian villages, darting from city buses to get one’s first cup of morning coffee, or the galactic constellations fighting to land their prized piece of space. My paintings hold colors that range from gauzy mystical woodsy affairs to dark and foreboding colors. I am unrestrained by lines and at times allow my work to bleed beyond the canvas. My paintings typically morph and shift over longer periods and the canvases are over-primed to create a lush and glazy feel to the work. Nature, death, life, the after-life, and both feminine and masculine archetypes hold great power over my creations.
Biography
Magdalena Munro is a Los Angeles based painter and poet with a love for nature, wordplay, and finding deeper meaning in life through painting and poetry. Her paintings embody mostly abstract expressionism and her style of drip paintings are meant to evoke deeply symbolic messages of life, death, the after-life, and the mysterious feminine archetype. All of her paintings have poetry that are written in concert with her creations to afford a richer experience when immersing one's self into the art. I am self taught and have degrees in biology, chemistry, and philosophy. I have won awards for my poetry and have written a children's art book entitled The Smell of the Pink Sky. Rivulets, my new collection for which I am seeking representation, has not been shown to the public.
