Matthew Blackwell

My work is about contrast and contradiction. The co dependance of light and dark, complimentary colors, and highlights and shadow , is what I use to create. It is only with both sides either could exist. The paintingsI create are a residue of this study on how these conflicting components exist.

Los Angeles resident Matthew Blackwell received his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University but was immersed in art and music long before. From an early age he was manipulating materials to become what he viewed as more visually pleasing. To this day, that need to create and manipulate different mediums and objects still plays dominance in his life.
