Statement
US based mexican painter Regina Davis creates scenes which enhance our understanding of the world from a female perspective.
Inspired by the constant evolution of the female psyche and using herself as a filter to translate an emotional reality, she uses elements of nature to intricately describe the constant tension of concepts that seem to fight each other to define a woman’s place in the world.
The intricate juxtapositions of innocence and wisdom, delicacy and strength, and poise and primitivism are explored in Regina Davis' paintings of primarily women full of beauty and mystery.
The exposure of female bodies and faces embraced by bouquets of flowers or gently wrapped by wings demonstrate the tension between being vulnerable whilst being exposed. The women are both giving and taking, nurturing while being nurtured depicting a sense of untamed strength. The tone is simultaneously moody and enchanting. Each element caters to a calming sense of mystery, inspired by the relationship between woman and nature.
She reminds us with her symbolic narratives of the constant search of our human nature in the presence of a larger spiritual reality through the female experience.
