ROBERT KOSS

The Life Box Series

Earth, plants, grass, trees and sky are the subject of the Life Box Series. It is based on images of the natural world. Idealized, patterned images on cloth, influenced by nature, frame more complex and wild views of it. The inner image, shaped to suggest depth, perceptual and symbolic. Through contrasting color it competes with the frame for dominance, posing a perceptual ambiguity. Two views of nature, one wild and complex, the other repetitive and ordered, vying for prevalence.
