Robert Newport

Artists Statement; I began painting in 1999, the year before I began my studies in Otis College of Art and Design. Once I began in earnest, I was lead to the landscape, as I have a deep love for nature. I painted these from my own photographs. As I developed further, I began to paint the natural glories which I have experienced at sea as well as on land. Currently, the photographs that interest me were taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. When they were first circulated on the net, I was immediately struck by the beauty and the immensity of space. My challenge has been to evoke that sense of immense space in paint. Many say that I have succeeded.

Art: a second career for Dr. Robert Newport, following thirty-one years as a psychiatrist. This was a time of deep explorations into the human psyche-- his own as well as his patient--but then, he comes from a family of explorers who arrived with the first settlers in this country in 1607. He was born in the Midwest mid-century, and has never been in the middle of anything since. A maverick in everything he has ever done, he was said to have invented the term ?holistic psychiatry.\\
