Rusty Wickell

The mission of my music is to bring out the healing force presence and consciousness of the listener. The music is a journey and guiding force through the inner landscape that I have traveled through my own healing process of a seizure condition. My music is deeply influenced by numerical relationships that I receive during my meditative practice that I then use to generate the whole of the music. I view this numerical framework as the organizing force of the music propelling the inner world into physical waking reality.

At age 14 I was diagnosed with a rare type of seizure condition characterized by grand mal seizures. This continued till I was put on a heavy dose of medication and I continued on this medication till age 28. At this time I was finishing my graduate degree in Music from Indiana University in oboe performance and beginning to compose music. I became very interested in alternative healing, especially energy healing. I learned to calm my mind with meditation, yoga and energy healing and writing music which expressed my inner landscape. In the spring of 1999 I moved to Colorado to attend a 4 year energy healing program at WakePoint. This took my process deeper and I began writing music that was an expression of this deeper healing.

From around the time finishing my Masters degree in music I began studying computer programming which has been my career alongside my music composition and very intertwined with my composition process. My seizures were in my mind a short circuit in the neural programming of my mind and combining a mathematical programmatic framework to my music was a natural combination which characterizes my compositions from this time going forward. I currently live in Marina Del Rey CA and continue to write music and have recently begun painting. I have been off of seizure medication for over 13 years as a result of this process.
