Sandra Beard

My artwork takes several forms. An idea that develops in a print may suggest the possibility of exploring that idea in sculptural form or become an installation. In printmaking, I find the monotype particularly suited to working in the immediate and pushing further into a series of images. The prints make connections with each other and present a story as some of the elements change and others are added. It is through the process of working that the how and why of a project comes to light. Elements of memory, a line from a poem, contemporary issues, communication or lack thereof, something pushes it?s way to the surface and becomes the catalyst behind the image.

Sandra Beard is from Orillia, Ontario and is now based in Sacramento, California. She received her B.A. in Fine Art from the University of Ottawa, Canada and a Master of Fine Arts degree from San Jose State University. Other studies include working with Master Printer, Joe Zirker and residencies at KALA, the Edna St. Vincent Millay Colony and the Vermont Studio Center. Her prints and paintings have been exhibited locally and internationally: Spain, France, England, Korea, New Zealand and Denmark. Sandra?s art related experience includes teaching, curating exhibitions, and producing art programs for the community. She is a juried member of the California Society of Printmakers, the Los Angeles Printmaking Society, the Boston Printmakers. Exhibitions in 2010 include solo exhibits at Axis Gallery in Sacramento, CA and the Fire House Gallery at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, Oregon
