I witness it, create it, and let everything else go.

My abstract work focuses not on form or narrative, but on process: the dissolution of structure, the freedom of flow. Lines scatter, erupt, evolve; colors rise like a choir — chaos and harmony, music made visible.

I was born in Crimea, where the steppe meets the sea. There, I learned from earth, water, and sky — their openness shaped my perception. Later, in Kharkiv, I studied Environmental Design at the Academy of Design and Arts and developed a love for clarity and contrast.

The war forced me to abandon fear. Color brought me back to life.

Today, I blend bold graphic precision with painterly intuition. Each work is an exploration of presence, fluidity, and transformation — a visual trace of emotion in motion. My process is physical, instinctive, and contemplative. I paint what I feel in my body before I know it in words.

My work is a search for joy — and the act of sharing.

Vira Tolmacheva is a Ukrainian abstract artist whose work explores movement, transformation, and the emotional resonance of color. She was born in Crimea, Ukraine, in 1979, and received her formal art education at the Crimean art school and college, later graduating from the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts with a degree in Environmental Design.

For over ten years, Tolmacheva ran a studio of expressive art for children and adults, teaching intuitive, process-based painting. She organized and led her students’ annual participation in more than 12 international children’s art programs and competitions, including the Kanagawa Biennial (Japan), the Louis François Center for UNESCO (France), and the JQA Environmental Drawing Contest at the UNICEF Tokyo Office.

She also collaborated with institutions such as the Kharkiv Art Museum, the International Eco-Poster Triennial The 4th Block, and the Yermilov Center for Contemporary Art.

After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Tolmacheva relocated to Lisbon, Portugal, where she continues her artistic practice. Her abstract paintings combine bold graphic precision with fluid, intuitive gesture. Through vibrant color and movement, she creates visual meditations on presence, resilience, and joy.

Her works have been exhibited in Ukraine and internationally, and are held in private collections across Europe and the United States.
